Why I'm Starting the Blue Plate Chef Blog
A cook, a stack of blue plates, and a notebook of recipes worth keeping
Greetings. Welcome to Blue Plate Chef, a place to collect the recipes I cook again and again. Before we dive into the food, a quick introduction.
I have always loved cooking. There is something therapeutic about prepping vegetables, stirring a pot, and watching a dish come together. It is my go-to activity when I want to unwind after a long day or clear my head.
Why blue plates
As a student I started picking up Denby Imperial Blue stoneware from off-price retailers and second-hand shops. They were affordable, in my favourite colour, and they quickly became a staple in my kitchen. Over the years I have built up quite a collection, and the blue plate has become a quiet symbol of how I cook.
It is not only the colour. Denby is made in England, my home country, and every piece is oven-proof. That means the same plate can carry an apple crumble out of the oven or hold a soufflé baked inside a mug.
What this site is for
I am a technical cook. I follow recipes, I tweak them, and I am always after a new technique or flavour to try. This site is where I document the recipes I want to keep, share the tricks I have picked up, and slowly build something useful for anyone who likes cooking from real instructions instead of vibes.
If a dish here ends up on one of your own plates, blue or otherwise, that is the whole point. Let's get cooking.
